The Package Master configuration in a Warehouse Management System (WMS) defines and manages the various packaging types and structures associated with each SKU (Stock Keeping Unit) used throughout warehouse operations. It standardizes how SKUs are packed, stored, handled, and shipped by establishing relationships between the SKU and its respective units of measure(UOM), such as each, cartons, pallets, or containers. This configuration ensures consistent packaging logic across inbound, storage, and outbound processes, improving operational efficiency and inventory accuracy.

🛠️ Purpose of the Package Master:

• Defines how products should be packed for shipping or storage
• Supports automated packing logic in WMS and ERP systems
• Ensures proper space planning during transportation or warehousing
• Drives accurate label generation and shipment documentation
• Facilitates rate calculation for logistics and freight systems

How to Create a Package?

Creating a Package Master is the process of defining a new packaging type in the warehouse or logistics system, including its dimensions, capacity, material, and usage rules. This setup ensures that the packaging is standardized, system-recognized, and available for use in shipping, storing, or auto-cartonization logic.

1. From the side menu bar, go to Master Data > Package Master, then click on the “Add” button.

1. Fill in the required fields (Labelled in orange colour).

• Select warehouse from dropdown list.
• Select customer from dropdown list.
• Enter the package code same as the item number of the item you are going to bind it to.
• Enter a description for the package.
• Status is set to active by default.

1. Click save.

Package Code: Insert same as item number (SKU). This is to link between SKU and package master.

How to Add Package Details

Below the main info tab, there is a package details section for you to create multiple details of package with different UOMs (Unit of Measure) and different quantities.

Prerequisites: Item master and package master with matching item number and package code created correctly.

1. Click on the “Add” button to trigger the details form.

1. Fill in the required fields with orange colour label.

• Enter a UOM, description, and quantity.
• Status is set to “Active” by default.
• Choose a Pick Put Rules from the dropdown list.

1. Click save.
2. A basic configuration for a usable package master with details is completed.

Remarks:

• UOM: Unit of Measure for the SKU, e.g. EA, CARTON
• UOM Description: Description for the selected UOM
• Quantity: Quantity in the selected UOM
• Pick Put Rules: Rules group for operate in WMS. Select “Warehouse Default Pick Put Rules”

Pick Put Rules must be assigned to a package to ensure the correct handling, storage, and movement of items within the warehouse. These rules define how goods are picked from and put away into storage locations.
