From the artic shores roamed by the yoran fleets to the erishé caravans settling routinely deep into the harsh deserts, there are many languages to be shared, heard and misunderstood across Elyria (CoE: Tribes). Not accounted the lost or secluded ones that we'll find while Adventuring... though some information is still to be discovered about those closer to us.

Communication

A bit of trivia to begin with: in the elyrian year of 817 (at game launch), Writing is a bit of a novelty, among the current tribes it has only begun to generalize since the last four or five generations.

Proximity chat & Family bond

The how is still unsure, but the design is well in place: you won't "magically" hear what you shouldn't if you were in your character's shoes... and to be heard, you'll have to exert that voice or those musical instruments (we will do a list, since they are quite a few, from those specific/thematic to their originating tribes to the more commonly used).

One of the the only exceptions to modern usage is the Family Bond, a no-limit telepathic link you have with fellow Soulborns that share your bloodlines (not forcefully your surname by the way), either by birth (Child Contracts) or pact (bloodsworn during the optional ceremony accompanying Marriage Contracts and supposedly other major life events).

Playing a character's soul

Out-of-character (OOC) speech is normally frowned upon by purists, but when players are literally out-of-character souls (fully knowing that when the first dies, the latter survives and can be reincarnated), that's when classic boundaries blur a lot.

As such, ramblings about your daily real-life (IRL) is just another experience from another plane of existence... especially in a world where your soulborn neighbor could narrate you the fine details on how "she" lived as her great-grand-parent or as your recently deceased uncle... if her soul is awake that is (player logged in).

Both a curse and a boon to Soulborns (another term for player characters), this dual personality generally occurs along specific Bloodlines during the adolescence: reported as early as twelve years old for many Wards of the state, it may happen a little later for those that still have a Family Bond and entourage, with very rare cases among grown adults.

NPCs (non-player characters) and NTCs (non-traditional characters) don't have them? ...either in nascence or dormancy, theirs originate from another Soul pool than the famous and bubbly Akashic Records to the point where there is a debate among skeptical players if they have one at all. Note that each Game Server has its own world, thus its own records (soul pool) within their own Astral Plane. Yet, Soul-less, creatures of myths and legends, are the true un-holder of a precious Soul though, and generally seeking such sustenance in one ghastly way or another.

Languages from both worlds

[🔝]

It is no surprise that we, in Aurora, being a multi-cultural eco-active settlement are also advocates of multi-lingual and internationalized content, be it in-game characters (between elyrian CoE: Tribes, our citizens and esteemed visitors as well) or for interested players (within the thriving CoE: Community).

Pronunciation

Finally, if you've once wondered how to pronounce any of those tribe names, you might want to check the audio (hosted on the official website and besides) that Vye (Executive Director of the CoE: Dev team) gracefully put together when announcing the tribes.
