If your professor requires you to have access to a piece of equipment all semester long, such as having an SD card(s), you can maintain possession of the same piece of equipment throughout the entirety of the semester. However, you will have to come back to the Equipment Room every week to check in and “Renew” your piece of equipment.
Here at the Equipment Room, we try to work with you as much as possible. If something out of your control happens, such as an illness, car accident, injury, etc, then we’ll work with you to figure out a time that you can bring the gear back without incurring a late fee. However, if you find yourself just running late, you will be charged a late fine upon returning the equipment. We have been known to show grace if you reach out via phone or email beforehand and let us know that you’ll be running late. If you anticipate needing access to a specific piece of equipment, such as the RED Komodo-X, and you haven’t yet taken your corresponding competency, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the Production Manager, Kendrick Satterfield. You can schedule a time to meet with Kendrick via his scheduling software linked below.
Rest assured that students will never pay a rental fee strictly for the purpose of renting out equipment. Equipment will always be free to rent for students. However, students will see a fee for checking out equipment if that equipment is returned late, damaged, or not at all. More information about the fee process can be read on the following page.
