About a decade back, artificers in a major capital city, Asheport, found within The Blossoming Shore, have developed what is known as “Manasteel,” an ingot that has potentially limitless arcane power and has entirely restructured society in the city permanently, bringing about huge waves of innovation, and creating a cyberpunk-esque dystopian city, which was blasphemous to those who were traditional about the old ways of the arcane arts. Thus, in a fit of rebellion, those following the old arcane have chosen to begin building a new society. In recent years, rebellions and riots have broken out between the two factions over who gets control of the main city, spurred by the idea of tradition vs. scientific advancement. These factions have named themselves after their beliefs, choosing to call themselves the faction of the mechanist or the faction of the arcanist.
Over years, much of the original city has been destroyed during the riots, with the new city, “Silverhold,” continuously fortifying their walls and creating a strong, centralized military. In response, the new, arcanist-governed city of “Oakbury” have begun to radicalize their youth and prepare magical wards and defenses to be used in the case of an attack on their new home. As tensions rise, it’s becoming clear that something is bound to break soon, with an immense amount of devastation soon to occur. Since the split of the two societies, the land in between the cities has become known as “The Shallow Fields”, and has become the home of neutral parties, with a few small towns and villages popping up. Both Silverhold and Orebury have deemed these towns and villages protected, and no fighting is to occur here, existing in what is essentially a no man’s land.
Within Silverhold, since the boom of manasteel production, many new schools and colleges have arisen, bringing scholars from all of Midhaven into the ports to learn and develop this new arcane metal and fully develop its uses and properties. In the past two decades, due to the amount of scholars, a rise has been given to a new school system. Parents are now given the opportunity to have their child be raised and taught in a private system that works closely with the Silverhold government, giving the promise of high-paying employment and a nice life in the future for the family. This has caused an explosion in Silverhold’s economy, bringing riches unseen in any city across Midhaven. Due to a new influx of gold, rise was given to a new high-class known as the “Manaforged,” those who have been able to acquire enough gold to replace nearly every piece of their body so they can achieve a pseudo-immortal lifestyle and live on as a consciousness inside of their new arcane metal bodies. These new high-class cyborgs have holds deep into the new Silverhold government, building everything upon how much gold a citizen can offer. However, the average citizen of Silverhold has grown much richer than the average peasant found across Midhaven, living relatively happily.
