1. Contain it all within a cool frame!

I'm not going to bother writing out the details of this step. If you got a frame (hopefully it's the right size), put your display into it. Depending on the size, you may need to bend the metal mounting pieces on the screen to get it to fit. Get fancy with it. Keep the cables clean. Put it on your desk. Put it on your wall. You did it!!!!!!!

2. Download Starter Loops (if desired)

You probably want your own cool loops on your Loopy, but if you want some of mine on it, try these out (these are all for a portrait display). Here's a second set of loops that aren't mine but I consider timeless/open enough for download

There's also many other artists way better than me, but their work isn't mine so I'm not going to link to the files for them here. If we're friends, hmu and I'll send what I've got. If we're not, do the curation yourself!!

My fav artist loops so far are by Beeple & Julian Glander. GIPHY has a lot of fun ones in the @Originals channel, and everywhere else.

3. Control on iOS with Shortcuts

iOS has this v nice app called Shortcuts. It's made by Apple, and lets you make complex workflows & add em to your home screen, notification center widget, & Siri. If you have it, you can create a workflow that sends SSH commands to your pi. Aka, you can restart, turn off, & turn on from shortcuts on your phone.

  1. Create a new shortcut, title it "Turn off Loopies" or w/e
  2. Tap Add Action
  3. Tap the search bar, search for SSH, and add Run Script Over SSH
  4. Tap Show More
  5. Enter your Pi's IP address under Host, change User to pi, & enter your password
  6. Paste tvservice -o under Script
  7. Tap Next in the top-right
  8. Give it a Siri command if you want, & tap Done

To add it to your widgets or home screen, tap the ellipsis ... to edit the shortcut, & then tap the ellipsis (below Done) again. From here you can tap Add to Home Screen and/or toggle Show in Widget.

4. Troubleshooting

Sometimes I've noticed my screen will just be blank. Shit's crashed. It won't restart via SSH. Most of the time its considered bad practice to unplug your pi without turning it off first, but if you need to that'll with 99% likelihood fix the problem.
