Welcome to the practical page of this wiki! If you’re looking for something concrete and applicable, this is the place to be.
Our **Model** section **names what shapeshifting work is, while **Signals and Precedents explores why it matters. This section focuses on how it gets done — and better supported — in the messy reality of projects, organisations, and careers.
This section gathers a set of concrete situations where the shapeshifter model has proven useful. Use cases describe a type of situation: the pattern, the friction, and what you can do about it. Case studies show how it played out for a real person in a real situation.
For individual practitioners, this section includes tools we developed ourselves — reflective frameworks, profiles, workshops, and sense-making practices — as well as tools we use and recommend. All are intended to help shapeshifters understand their patterns of work, develop their capabilities, navigate tensions, and make better choices about roles, projects, and careers.
For organisations, our focus is on making shapeshifting work easier to recognise and support. This includes emerging role descriptions, position descriptions (PDs), KPIs, interview questions, white papers, case studies, and other artefacts that help translate work-in-between into organisational language, without flattening it or devaluing it.
The bulk of our work is to develop a model and share it. Part of it involves getting together with other shapeshifters. We run a monthly in-person heartbeat gathering in Melbourne, Australia, where half of our team is based, and ad hoc online gatherings focused on special topics.
This section is a shared space. We expect many of the most useful resources here to come from the field: people sharing their own PDs, stories, experiments, adaptations, and lessons learned. Many of the tools we gather here are intended as living artefacts: things to be tested, refined, and contextualised rather than adopted wholesale.
The Shapeshifters Wiki is a work in progress. We will be gradually updating links and sharing more tools. If you would like to share a tool or initiative you like, please reach out at hello@shapeshifters.group
