About

Scenes are Tableplops term for the virtual battlemap. You can create scenes in the campaign by pressing the "New Scene" button. Create new scenes on the Campaign page: Campaigns .

Scene

The scene is the surface of the battlemap where you can place maps, tokens, images, drawings and more. The scene starts empty except in the case of the example campaign created for new accounts. You click and drag tokens to move them in the scene as long as they are not locked. Holding shift while dragging will snap the token's position to the grid.

Once a token is selected by clicking it some tokens (images, characters, text) will show rotation and scale handles which you can drag to rotate and scale the token. Holding shift while rotating will snap the rotation to 15 degree increments, shift while scaling will scale the token to always be equal to a number of grid squares.

Maps and the grid

When adding maps to the scene that already have a grid built in it can be troublesome to align it to Tableplop's grid. You can choose to disable Tableplop's grid but by doing so you will lose the benefit of snap to grid and the measure tool which align to Tableplop's grid. The best way to align it is to input the width of the map in grid squares when adding it. But if that isn't an option, if the map's grid spans from edge to edge, you can use snap to grid to first position it aligned to the grid, then scale it while holding shift. This makes it easier to see when it matches the Tableplop grid.

Hierarchy

The scene is structured in a hierarchy of tokens, you can see the hierarchy in the hierarchy panel on the left of the scene. This representation of the scene shows the GM all the tokens, visible and hidden.

Tokens at the top of the hierarchy are shown over others in the scene.

You can drag and drop tokens in the hierarchy to rearrange them and move them between folders.

Players can will only see tokens they control in the hierarchy.

Tokens and Folders

Every item in the scene is called a token, a token can be an image, a drawing, a character or anything else in the scene. Tokens are often organized in folders, folders don't do anything other than group tokens so you can find them easier and hide or lock all of them at once.

Click a token to select it (to select locked tokens hold the alt key). Once selected rotation and scaling controls appear and you can drag the token to move it around. Hold shift to snap the token to grid when moving or scaling it or to rotate in 15 degree increments.

Default Tokens and folders

Some tokens and folders are in the scene by default such as Fog of War, the Grid and the Camera.

Image

The image token is a basic image you can scale and move in the scene. Use this for props and maps. Avoid using this for characters or anything you might want players to control or that might roll dice.
