One day, while scrolling on TikTok… I saw a couple dancing together at home during lockdown in an amazingly smooth way. After a few more videos and forgetfulness over the coming months, a reply found its way to me… They had finally responded to something I had commented out of wishful thinking, and were now visiting my city to teach at a dance event only TWO BLOCKS from my workplace - the very next weekend!
But I had to take a risk... I knew nothing about West Coast Swing dance events, and had no idea what I was getting myself into. There were over a thousand people there, and at the time, I thought I was an introvert.
After I made the decision to give it everything I had that weekend, I found that I actually enjoyed it! I discovered an entire world I never knew existed, a local community just a block from my Rock Climbing gym, and friends from all over the world! Partner dance quickly became my favorite new hobby after rock climbing. I never knew that leap would make me friends from all over the world!
