👋🏼 Welcome to the Know Better, Do Better Almanac
You'll want to bookmark this page.
This is a non-exhaustive, non-comprehensive document filled with individuals and resources that I am learning from, organizations and petitions that most directly help people, and lots of joy injected in as well. ****I will be adding more to this resource as I learn myself - stay up to date through my newsletter.
The goal is to move beyond "thoughts and prayers" into action.
Guiding Principles of Know Better, Do Better
I am learning and following the 10 Principles of Disability Justice. Some principles include:
- INTERSECTIONALITY: "We do not live single issue lives." -Audre Lorde. Ableism, coupled with white supremacy, supported by capitalism, underscored by heterpatriarchy, has rendered the vast majority of the world "invalid".
- LEADERSHIP OF THOSE MOST IMPACTED: "We are led by those who most know these systems." -Aurora Levins Morales
Reminders
Friends, I am excited if you decide to go on this journey with me. As we go about this, remember three things:
- You do not have to do everything. Try not to be overwhelmed by this document. The world is huge and there are too many man-made issues to deal with. I hope your main takeaway from this document is ideas and excitement about how you can use what superpowers you have to make the world a safer and better place for all in the space you are in (personal finance, health, corporate America, whatever). Then go do it through trials and errors. If you do that, then this document is serving its purpose.
- You also do not have agree with everyone's style of activism. You just need to be active.
- Do not forget to rest because, as Susi Moser said in the book All We Can Save, "burned out people aren't equipped to serve a burning planet".
