🌟 Extension & Outreach
As a professor, scientist, and advocate for open education, I strive to extend learning beyond the classroom. My outreach work connects students, community members, and organizations with opportunities for discovery, conservation, and innovation.
🏫 Community Education
- Discovery Park Ranarium – Faculty lead for EAC’s Ranarium, collaborating with Arizona Game & Fish and community partners to provide public tours, conservation education, and student research opportunities.
- K–12 Engagement – Regularly visit local schools to introduce students to Arizona wildlife, native plants, and conservation practices.
- Science Camps & Workshops – Developed engaging STEM activities such as Time Travel Detectives, creating hands-on learning experiences for youth ages 12–16.
🌱 Local Partnerships & Applied Research
- Upper Gila Watershed Chapter (AZ Native Plant Society) – Work with community members on conservation, restoration, and education initiatives.
- Water Conservation Grant (WIFA) – Collaborated on proposals to address regional water sustainability and community needs.
- Drone Applications for the Community – Lead projects in vegetation mapping, mine monitoring, ranching applications, and ecological surveys, helping local industries and conservation groups benefit from drone technology.

- OERizona Podcast – Highlighting open education leaders and inspiring faculty across Arizona.
- BioBites Podcast – Making complex biology topics accessible in short, engaging episodes.
- Virtual Field Trips & Videos – Produced educational films such as Nocturnal Biodiversity in the Arizona Desert to bring scientific discovery directly to students and the public.
🌐 Statewide & Professional Outreach
- OERizona Leadership – Serve as Communications Committee Chair and Faculty Lead for statewide OER initiatives, inspiring the creation and adoption of Open Educational Resources.
