Encyclopedia Dulora - Vol. 1

Dulora

Dulora has 5 key regions: Edoril, Peteleka, Toffhelm, Fellnore, and Savellor. Each region is rich with it’s own cultures, landscapes, economies, and more. You’ll find that no two regions are quite the same, should you decide to explore them. Each region has at least one important landmark that defines the region in many ways.

Edoril is home to the Lora Tree, which is the tree that connects all life in Dulora. It is protected by the capitol city, Aethel. This is a city of commerce, trade, and imports, making it a treasure trove for collectors and merchants alike. In Edoril you will also find Hellbane’s Guild, an exclusive adventurer’s guild that serves to better the world.

Peteleka is a swampy region full of dangerous creatures and treacherous lands. The only known key location in Peteleka is Varhnrum, it’s capitol. Some say that the city itself is built on the petals of a giant flower, but rarely do adventurers return to confirm the tale.

Toffhelm is home to Toffjard, a fortress built into the side of a volcano. To the south, there lies the Grand Gallaur, a coliseum that attracts combatants of every kind to fight for glory, riches, and even a bit of fun.

Fellnore is where scholars and practitioners of the arcane arts will venture to seek untold knowledge and greater power. The Grand Library is said to hold all recorded knowledge in Dulora, and the locals guard it with their lives.

Savellor is a land of perpetual snow that surrounds the kingdom and castle of Lunivale. In this castle sits the High King, the one chosen by Caissa to guide every nation in Dulora.

History

Dulora’s name comes from ancient Duloric, a language known only to certain scholars and historians, and it’s meaning is simply “the world”. It was officially named just before the first calendar year, according to the earliest recorded texts.

Dulora’s calendar consists of four seasons: Aurora, Suntide, Duskhazel, and Starfall. Calendar

The current year is 1281 AL (Age of Lora).

Since the First Year, Dulora has experienced a never-ending cycle of darkness and light. Every 10 years, the scenery changes from chaos to order, from peace to war. These are called Eras of Darkness, and Eras of Light. Typically, in an Era of Light, creatures spend this time recovering from the previous ten years of hardship, and preparing for the next 10 years of suffering once peace has ended. During an Era of Darkness, however, there is war. Historically, war always looked like several internal battles within regions. It was never a full-scale war that spanned across all five regions.

That is, until the 125th Era (years 1250-1259). For reasons still speculated and unknown, this was a war to end all wars. Every region was involved, and it was no longer a series of internal struggles. It was a war that could have meant the end of Dulora itself. Death tolls reached numbers that could compare to the last few wars combined.

King William of Lunivale, a man respected by all of Dulora for more than just his crown, was the one who brought the war to an end. Despite all odds, and the turmoil that seemed to be enough to dismantle the world, he ensured an end to the war, and secured a victory for the world. On the the 1st Aurora sun of 1260, King William promised the world that this war would be the last war, coining a phrase of hope for all people.

It was not until the year 1272 that the war of 1250 was officially named the Last War. As per the 10 year cycle that had not once been broken, war was expected at the turn of the decade… but it never came. For the first time, the people of Dulora experienced true peace for longer than a decade, and that peace continues into the year 1280, another hopeful beginning to another peaceful decade.
