Hi! Welcome to my Notion page. I come from a background very interested in the human condition, in how we can improve it and how we can build bridges across society. My undergraduate in sociology helped inform my research, as I learned how structural inequality impacts people, especially those in marginalized groups. However, what amazed me was that it wasn't just institutional structure that impacted people's opportunities; even the physical structure of their surroundings (through universities, public parks, streets, churches) would change who they came in contact with and how they could improve their circumstances. This got me interested in how design could help solve the social problems I had been learning about in my studies.
As my horizons expanded, other subjects came into focus as contributing to the wicked problems we faced. The environment, our growing sense of placelessness, the way we treated indigenous traditions, the way we produce everyday objects…it was all connected. Those realizations led me to MDDI—a program committed to creating impact at the center of not only community, but technology and ecology as well. I felt drawn to the idea that there was a way I could contribute, here and now, to creating a better planet. Although I have a lot to learn, I am excited to apply myself in this program, gain new skills and insights, and forge habits and connections that can enrich my potential to contribute to easing structural inequality—in whatever form it takes.
