PURPOSE | OBJETIVO

Community libraries are revolutionary! They promote accessible literacy and a sense of connection that is simultaneously BY and FOR the collective. Access to free literature – especially within a trusted, familiar space like Universidad Popular (UP) ** – can foster a sense of comfort around reading. A community library will also be beneficial for those who do not enjoy reading because it will plant the seed of what mutual aid is and looks like, serving as an example of effective community organizing.

¡Las bibliotecas comunitarias son revolucionarias! Promueven la alfabetización accesible y un sentido de conexión que surge simultáneamente POR y PARA el colectivo. El acceso a literatura gratuita, especialmente en un espacio confiable y familiar como la Universidad Popular (UP), puede fomentar una sensación de bienestar en torno a la lectura. Una biblioteca comunitaria también será beneficiosa para quienes no disfrutan de la lectura, ya que les enseñará lo que es y cómo funciona la ayuda mutua, sirviendo como ejemplo de organización comunitaria eficaz.

GOAL | META

The goal of the community library is to be an additional resource to the Autumn Dr, and broader San Marcos, community. Ideally, it will remove barriers for folks to read whether they do not/ cannot buy books, drive or walk to the San Marcos library, or feel pressured/ do not have time to finish a book quickly.

El objetivo de la biblioteca comunitaria es ser un recurso adicional para Autumn Dr y la comunidad de San Marcos en general. Idealmente, eliminará las barreras para que las personas lean, ya sea que no puedan comprar libros, conducir o caminar hasta la biblioteca de San Marcos, o se sientan presionadas o no tengan tiempo para terminar un libro rápidamente.

GUIDELINES | REGLAS

• Please respect all books (aka don’t hurt the spine, fold pages, write on pages, put them back on the correct shelf)
• Please make sure to renew and return borrowed books
• Por favor, respete todos los libros (no dañe el lomo, doble las páginas, escriba en ellas y devuélvalos a su lugar correspondiente)
• Asegúrese de renovar y devolver los libros prestados

  • Hateful, stereotypical, harmful rhetoric
