Natal Chart Basics

A birth chart, also known as a natal chart, is a graphical representation of the positions of celestial bodies at the exact time, date, and location of an individual's birth. It serves as a blueprint of the sky at the moment of your birth and provides insights into various aspects of your life and personality.

By analyzing these elements and their interconnections, astrologers (and you!) can provide detailed interpretations and insights into personality traits, potential strengths, challenges, life themes, relationships, career tendencies, and more. It is important to note that interpretations are always subjective. Take what resonates and leave the rest!

<aside> 📖 If you’re wondering where to start, I recommend first searching your “Big Three” by finding your Sun Sign, Rising Sign, and Moon Sign in your natal chart. From there, you can analyze these big themes further by finding which of the Zodiacs rule the houses those signs are in. Another great place to start is down toward the bottom in the Lunar section, you can see the current phase of the moon updated in real time and explore how that may or may not be impacting you.

Birth Chart Template

<aside> ✨ Use this Birth Chart Template to generate your (free) natal chart. You can download or screenshot that image and replace it with the placeholder I provided👆. The more you add to and customize this database, the more you’ll get out of it. You can begin by clicking on and exploring each of the ⚛️Signs, 🏡Houses, or 🪐Planets, or by looking into the resources listed at the bottom. As you learn your chart, add notes under each Sign, Planet, or House as you see fit. Remember that, just like you, the planets are always in motion! Come back to your natal chart again and again, it is a living and breathing museum of you, and will assist you in making sense of planetary transits.
