- Even if your risk of serious illness is low, you may still transmit the virus to someone who is at greater risk of death (older parents, grandparents, etc.)
- Many people will eventually be infected with the coronavirus, but hospitals can only provide healthcare service to a limited number of patients at one time (there aren't enough hospital beds and respiratory machines in the country to help everyone at once)
- If too many people get sick at once, many more people will die
- Social distancing helps "flatten the curve" so that we don't overwhelm our health services
