Our Performance Snapshot has two axes: the Performance Axis and the Growth Axis.

Performance is measured and evidenced using our Take Flight: Career Progression Framework . This page outlines how to approach the second axis, Growth. It is crucial we are all using the same input points to assess Growth, so that we are able to fairly and consistently identify, understand, and calibrate performance in and across our teams.

<aside> 🚀 At Whereby, we'd like to have a clear indication and definition of what it means to exhibit active growth behaviours. Below you will find examples of what this should look like on your team.

Use this as a guide when deciding where your direct report sits on the Performance Snapshot .

Proactive Growth Definition

Proactive growth indicates that this team member is taking effective, independent, and consistent steps towards learning more about their role and striving to add required, relevant skills and experience to their 'skills toolbox'. This can be evidenced through the behaviours listed below.

👍 Define effective?

Effective growth refers to turning effort into impact. A team member who is effectively growing thinks about their own career progression and trajectory without prompting, and takes that action to fruition. For example, someone may proactively seek feedback, and then would ensure they not only reflect on the feedback but incorporate steps to improve based off of it.

🏃 Define independent? Team members who are independent in their proactive growth are able to problem solve and demonstrate the behaviours listed below with some to minimal guidance from yourself.

In this context independence means that these team members are able to seek out information, solutions, and learning experiences alone, through their teammates, external resources, and research.

Define consistent? If a team member demonstrates the behaviours mentioned below consistently you should notice regular demonstration of the same (or similar) behaviours. Some of the below behaviours are those which can be demonstrated daily (such as inviting feedback, or taking initiative to lead others). Some behaviours can only be demonstrated less frequently. The important calibration tool here would be to consider the regularity of taking the available opportunity to demonstrate such behaviours; is it 90% of the time where there is an opportunity, or 20%?

Proactive Growth Behaviours

The below behaviours are what we would consider strong evidence for someone's capacity on the Growth Axis. Consider them when assessing the definition above.

<aside> ☝ Example: Ivette proactively seeks feedback from her peers and managers. She does this without prompting from her manager (independent), and at the completion of every project or key milestone (consistent). The way she does this is adjusted to the type of feedback, so that she gets useful comments which she always includes in her 1:1 and growth goals (effective).

This would be 1 strong demonstration of Proactive Growth Behaviours.
