August 5th β 11th 2019
BASH Festival is a free week-long coding festival for 13-17 year olds who have had some exposure to development or digital design.
Why are we running BASH? π
There are lots of programmes to teach young people how to code, but once the basics are taught, thereβs very little support as most events cannot facilitate minors.
Our Mission π―
To create and foster regional and national communities of technical young people, and support them in building upon their existing skills through a series of events.
Summary β¨
- 250-300 young people aged 13-17
- These young people have some degree of prior technical skill
- 40-50 mentors who are all DBS checked
- During the week they're in one of about 15 simultaneous regional events ('hubs') across the UK run by volunteers
- During the weekend they're at the finale in Birmingham
- Aiming for 25% low-income backgrounds, 25% people of colour, 25% female or non-binary participation
How it works
Monday β Friday π«
- Young People build projects together in one of roughly 15 regional hubs across the UK.
- Each hub has 10-15 young people and adults mentors to support them
- Each day we'll release video content for hubs to help their participants keep on track
- Every hub will work on the same challenges, and open from 10am - 5pm
Saturday β Sunday π
- Every hub attends the finale in Birmingham
- They show off their projects with some winners selected
- Free to attendees, food is provided, and the event runs overnight
- Throughout there will be over 20 sessions including talks, workshops and music
