Cities across a region come together to collectively reduce light emissions for a night to get a glimpse the depths of the universe with clarity unknown in urban areas.

Inspiration

Why do people want to participate?

Individual contribution to reducing carbon emissions - helping with climate change. Perhaps alone we aren't doing much, but we can contribute and agree to proposals which allow us to collectively make change that improves the world.

Framed as a statewide art community art project.

What is a compelling sample of the experience?

Find a space in the middle of San Francisco, project a vibrant night sky onto the ceiling with upview of building in the foreground - "this is what it would be like!"

Why do I want to do this?

Roadmap

Stepping Stones

Is this an effort built up and tested over time?

Do we start with small cities along the periphery? See how difficult it is to get collaboration at the various levels? Maybe pick a few that will be easier to start with to test out the messaging.

How much time / inertia will need to be overcome? Do some lights need to stay on? Can we retrofit those for a day to be better? Can we use the effort to fuel reduction.

How does this build over time?
