TORTUS is an ambient voice technology product that automates the documentation of clinical consultations using a Large Language Model - gathering information either via ambient listening of a clinical assessment, or a clinical dictation. The AI model that is used for this product is specifically designed to bring together clinical notes from either an ambient consultation or from a dictation after the event.
TORTUS is an aide only and not a replacement for human interaction and clinical decision making. Whilst it will prepare your note it is the responsibility of the clinician to review the output ensuring that it is accurate to the clinical presentation of the patient before submission of the patient record.
The fundamental principle of the clinical record is that you should be able to recreate the clinical assessment and episode of care from the record. The record must not contain aspects of the assessment or treatment which did not happen and as the clinician there both legal and professional consequences of not ensuring your records are accurate and reflect what occurred. There is no professional of legal exemption based on “the tech did not record it”
TORTUS is not a clinical decision-making or support tool and cannot be used as such, do not base treatment decisions for patients upon the output of TORTUS, it is a tool to support clinical documentation only.
TORTUS can be used be used in two different methods, these are detailed below. It should be remembered that consent should always be obtained where possible to use the product and a person has the right to not consent to the product use during their care episode. In this case you should complete clinical documentation without as would be done previously.
