tiny is an application designed for new moms. By using it, new mom can log the diaper changes, breastfeeding time, and do monthly budgeting for diaper. Not just that, this app can be integrated with night lamps so it can recommend the moms about what to do with the baby crying in the middle of the night.
My team was challenged to create a design prototype for new moms, who is having their first time giving birth.
Taking care of a newborn can be challenging. New mothers not only being empathetic to the baby that’s adapting to new surroundings, but also adapting to her new version of self—because of hormonal changes, body changes again and again, daily routine changes, and many more. New mothers can face extremely-high cognitive load because new mothers also have to take care of theirselves, their husbands, also other family if any.
In Indonesia, if we see it from traditional culture and social perspective, emotional weight of a new mom could be more challenging because sometimes, presence of new moms’ surrounding if often adding more weight instead of being helpful. Being a woman itself is already challenging, even worse for being a new mom with less-supportive environment.
We found that struggles and pain points of being a new moms relates to the following matters:
We realized that struggles behind the process being a new mom is inevitable, even with any app with advanced technologies. Not every problem can be solved by an app. We also realized that being a new moms can be too exhausting so they will be too exhausted to open their phones and being helped by it.
From the existing pain points, we wanted to lessen the cognitive load that they’re having. That’s why we want to help them keeping records of data related to the baby, so new moms don’t need to remember every single thing by theirselves. We created main features to “predict” the next baby needs when the baby cries in the middle of the night, based on data recorded.
