Vision and Strategy are effectively the alternative to product roadmaps.
Outline of Strategy Workshop
They provide the Business Context.
Everyone in the organization should know the business context composed of:
1. The product vision and strategy
This describes the big picture of what the organization as a whole is trying to accomplish and what the plan is for achieving that vision. Each of our product teams may have its own areas of focus (for example, buyer teams and seller teams), but it's all supposed to come together to achieve the product vision.
2. The business objectives
This describes the specific, prioritized business objectives for each product team.
These can then be broken down into a hierarchy of decisions:
✊ Product Mission
The “why” behind the work that we are doing.
Mission and Values Exercise
👁 Product Vision
Describes the future we are trying to create
- Typically somewhere between 2 and 5 years out. For hardware, typically 5-10 years out.
- Not a roadmap or a spec. Might take the form of a storyboard, a white paper, or a special type of prototype called a visiontype.
- When successful, the vision inspires teams, stakeholders, investors, partners and customers to help make the vision a reality
