The program starts in May 2021. This is a paid position. It is currently set up to be remote only.

Job description

As a valued member of the Hideout team, the designer will be expected to:

• Contribute ideas and deliver finished work for client consideration
• Own assignments, communicate progress and defend design decisions
• Develop ideas for personal projects and their business goals
• Begin a Reading List (materials provided)
• Give updates and prepare questions for weekly check-ins

This is not an internship. A good candidate will be interested in learning how run a small business, as well as how to design strong brand identities. Assignments will vary in both type of skill and level of excitement. Tasks may include:

• complete brand design

• layout for print and web

• editorial illustration

• UX research

• project management

• asset creation and organization

• budgeting

• pitching new work

The designer will be responsible for managing at least one (very real) client project, from initial research to final presentation.

Requirements

A working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, XD and InDesign, as demonstrated in recent work.

The ability to focus on more than one project at a time and quickly pivot between mediums, tools and processes.

Applications are open to all, but the ideal candidate is:

• A self-described junior to mid-level designer, with an interest in starting their own business or pursuing a career in freelance
• A generalist, interested in all aspects of design from GIF optimization to finger painting
• Not currently enrolled in art school (ie: not a candidate for most internships)
• Often designing logos for friends, but not for large sums of money
