You’ve created your account, now what’s next? Our recommend first step is to begin creating your subscription plan. You can do that by clicking “subscription plans” in the sidebar from your Subkit dashboard, and then clicking “Create Plan.”

Below, our step-by-step advice on how to use Subkit to build out your subscription plan. This guide includes screenshots of the product itself, with some brief best practices & case studies on what to do at each step.

1. Your Subscription Plan Name

You want your subscription plan to be named something memorable and short, but also (importantly!) descriptive about what you’re offering. How often can subscribers expect to receive it? What exactly is it? Your subscription plan named should answer these types of basic questions. For example, Paraluman Floral offers subscription plans titled “Fresh Bouquet - Toronto Monthly” and “Fresh Bouquet + Candle - Toronto Monthly.” At a glance, any potential subscriber will be able to understand what they stand to receive, when, and where. That’s good!

2. What are you offering?

Briefly explain what your subscription plan includes. You want to be concise and direct in your wording, so that exactly what you’re offering is conveyed clearly and quickly to potential subscribers. This copy will likely be slightly redundant with the name of your subscription plan, but that’s okay. You’ll reiterate the basic subscription offer, and then expand by including important additional details like ingredient lists, geographic availability, and more. Don’t be afraid to use language that’s colorful and exciting! (This is also your chance to do a littttlleee bit of marketing.) You can also use this section to describe positive outcomes that subscribers can expect. The idea is for your potential subscriber to see this description and go (lightbulb!): “Hey, that’s me!” A great example is Perpetual Motion by Julia Bray:

3. Who is it perfect for?

Not all subscription plans are perfect for all people! In fact, there’s probably one, very specific type of person who will most benefit from your subscription—and you’ll want to use the “Who is this for?” section to indicate exactly who they are. How to best describe this person varies, depending on your field. If you’re a language tutor, perhaps your subscription is best suited for people just starting to learn versus already established speakers. You’ll want to note that. (”This subscription is perfect for people who don’t speak any Spanish yet, but are looking to become proficient for travel.”) Or perhaps you’re a coffee shop, and you want to offer a subscription to the people who buy beans from you weekly. You’d want to note that. (”This is for the person who needs a new bag of affordable, but quality coffee, each week.”)

Check the Work-Life Liberation Coaching Community for a great example. The “perfect for” section is where this section appears on your Subkit page.

4. Waitlist (yes or no?)

The waitlist is automatically “on.” If you decide to launch without one, simply toggle this “off.” Here’s how to use the waitlist. Here’s why you should.

5. Add features
