storybook labs inc. created the storybook app (the “service”) to foster collaborative social interaction, while intentionally limiting the amount of personally identifiable information shared and/or collected. that being said, there is a minimal amount of information needed to get started, so this privacy policy lets you know exactly what we have to collect, & why.

if you choose to use our service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. any personal information that we collect is used for providing and improving the service. we don’t use or share your information with anyone (& never will), except as explicitly described in this privacy policy.

info needed to get started:

in order to create an account, there are three pieces of personally identifiable information needed (and this is the only information we’ll ever ask for):

the information that we request will be retained by us and used as described in this privacy policy.

you must provide an email that you have access to in order to ensure that you’re able to reset your password if/when needed.

the first and last names you provide are only used cosmetically. you may be addressed by those names when we email you, for example when you request a password reset. we encourage you to use any name that you like to be called. you will also see that name in some screens of the app, but it isn't displayed to other users.

photos:

photos, especially photos including your face, are extremely sensitive and private information. a computer can use them to categorize you in ways that harm you, or to learn information about you that is not obvious to a person. we will never use photos you provide to us in this way.

that said, the service is a photo-based service. we will share your photos to other users on the service at your direction. please keep in mind that while we can control the sharing of photos inside the service's various components, including revoking access to content, we cannot prevent anyone with whom you share photos on the service from making, keeping, or elsewhere distributing copies of that content.

for this reason, we recommend you only share content with people you trust. this is what storybook is designed to help you do.

log data:

stuff happens: bugs, errors, & crashes are always a possibility. if (ok, when) these things inevitably occur, some data is created (“log data”). this log data may include information such as your device internet protocol (“IP”) address, device name, operating system version, the configuration of the app when utilizing our service, the time and date of your use of the service, and other statistics that we will only ever use to diagnose/fix stuff (and never distributed/exploited for profit).

so that we can correlate trends and otherwise speed up our resolution of these bugs and errors, we also collect similar log data at times when the service appears to be functioning properly. but in this case as well, we only use these log entries to help our internal teams improve or fix the service in a timely manner.

where this info exists:

storybook does use third party service providers. we want to let you know that these third party service providers have access to your personal information in order to perform the tasks assigned to them on our behalf. however, they are obligated not to disclose or use the information for any other purpose. these businesses include:
