After surviving a near-death experience on the streets of San Francisco which hospitalized him for 10 days, Sam had no life epiphanies or spiritual realizations and continued to write code both professionally and in his free time, spending maybe too much time editing his .vimrc . His language learning abilities similarly saw no change and he continues to study Chinese like everyone else, one word at a time. He hates pork fat now though.
