Emily Hamel brings forward her exuberant partner, Corvett (“Barry”) for their third run at Kentucky, where they’ll look to improve on their previous finishes, which include a 10th place in 2023. Emily and Barry have traveled the world together, finishing well at Burghley in 2022 (20th) and Luhmühlen in 2024 (15th), and despite the fact that Emily keeps declining our offer to crowdfund a trip Down Under to tick off the Adelaide 5*, their consistency at nearly every 5* event there is to offer is worthy of much respect. Emily has a small string of young horses, but this one has been her go-to upper-level partner, and the fact that she’s kept him sound and competing for so many seasons is a testament to her horsemanship and management program.

• Sometimes, especially when he’s fit for a 5*, Barry turns on full princess mode and demands that only his mom feeds him in his private turnout, not allowing anyone else to catch him until Emily comes down to serve his every need.

• This weekend marks Corvett’s eighth 5* start. He’s completed every one he’s started, and has even finished as high as 7th (Maryland 5 Star - 2024).

• Barry’s jumping style. Need we say more? This fan-favorite horse is well-known for giving every jump just a little extra room over the top, but yet he still manages to get fairly close to the time each run. Get your cameras ready for this one when he comes by!
