After a stellar 5* debut at Pau last autumn, where they battled through brutal conditions to finish fourth with just time on cross country and a double clear on the final day, Alex Hua Tian and Chicko return to the top level with serious momentum. A former ride of Polly Stockton, Chicko has blossomed under Alex’s guidance, picking up notable results including a win at Ballindenisk 4*-S and top-ten finishes at both Blenheim and Chatsworth.

Alex, a multi-time Olympian for China, may not frequent the 5* circuit, but his polish in the dressage arena and tact across the country are undeniable. Chicko typically scores in the low 30s and has shown he can hold that mark through to the finish, especially with his foot-perfect jumping performance at Pau. With one impressive 5* already under their belt, this pair will be looking to solidify their status as serious contenders—and if the jumping phases go to plan, a top 10 finish is absolutely within reach.

This pair is a good shout to add just time on cross country to their finishing score; if Chicko can tackle the step up in technicality at Badminton this weekend, he’s another to tap for a potential top five finish.
