Intro
We’re starting up a mentoring scheme for our community following requests from members.
Should I become a mentor?
Mentoring can improve your leadership skills, help you get experience managing and mentoring others is a great way of supporting the SiT community. Lack of diversity in tech is a huge problem and participating in this scheme is one way of helping address that.
Some things that mentees might get out of being mentored by you are:
- Advice on starting a career or career progression
- Ideas on how to approach specific problems or challenges
- Insight into what it’s like to work in the tech industry
- Build Confidence
- Access to your networks and contacts
- Cultural capital
- Increased ambition and drive
What a mentor is not:
- Mentoring is not coaching, training, counselling or therapeutic in nature.
- A mentor does not decide, tell or instruct a mentee on what to do
- A mentor does not always have the right answer
Who the mentees will be:
Students or professionals who have been in the industry for 3 years or less. They will all be members of the SiT Slack community.
What we need from you as a mentor:
- Complete the attached form with a short description of your strengths, experience and what you could offer to a mentee. This information will be used to help us match mentor to mentee.
