Mission

the <wit> project was founded in 2019 by two young Latinas with untraditional tech backgrounds who were troubled by the limited access they experienced as they embarked on their careers as software engineers. In navigating these difficulties, they realized that community was the most effective way to stay committed, celebrate authenticity, and most of all, create a sense of belonging for themselves and other women in this field.

Our community at the <wit> project embraces individuals underserved in the tech industry and empowers them to unleash their potential by becoming leaders in social change.

The Program

Problem

Just 3% of computing-related jobs are held by African-American women, 6% held by Asian women and 2% held by Hispanic women. And women leave tech roles at a 45% higher rate than men.

Solution

Through our program, the <wit> project aims to build a pipeline for female-identifying college students from ethnically and economically diverse backgrounds to enter the technology workforce and thrive there.

The <wit> difference

During the academic year, we mentor cohorts of 6 female-identifying students to develop a technical solution for a nonprofit while also providing training in software engineering and data science. Learn more about our program through our one pager and case study or program journey documents.
