Hi there 👋,
I’m Wassim, investment analyst at SET Ventures, which I joined a year ago. Before joining the fund, I was trained as an engineer and had a few experiences in corporate finance and climate investment in Paris. I’m originally from France and spent my first months in Amsterdam on two important missions: progressing at SET and finding the best croissant 🥐 in town to enjoy with my sweet Moroccan tea.
I was assigned a “buddy” when joining SET, which made me feel more confident and supported right from the start. For me, it meant being able to ask all my questions (even the silly ones!) to Moritz and easily get up to speed on the methods and tasks. The team is very friendly and I quickly felt in the right place to learn and grow, learning from their high analytical rigor and honesty.
There is no such thing as a typical week in VC (very original sentence, I know 🤓). As a visiting analyst, my main tasks included sourcing, taking first calls with entrepreneurs, experts and other investors, supporting the team on due diligence processes and being in charge of various internal tasks such as updating our CRM.
At the end of my internship I felt that I was in the right place and luckily the team had the same opinion.
In the past nine months as a full-time analyst I’ve continued to learn a lot. I’ve had the chance to dive into energy markets, cybersecurity for the grid, digitisation of grid infrastructures and the French solar market through our recent investment in Enrise. Since I’m particularly interested in industrial topics, I’ve been able to focus more on those by attending dedicated events on industrial energy procurement, OT cybersecurity and power distribution networks.
On a more personal note, moving from Paris to Amsterdam turned out to be easier than I thought and I truly enjoy my new life here, from cycling to the office 🚲 to enjoying the canal views and the numerous parks throughout the city. Outside of work, I like reading, running and helping out with local charity projects.
