Here’s another American movie I watched dubbed into Japanese on the flight from Japan this time. It’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie (which seemed like a particularly appropriate one to do this with). At this point I was very very very tired during a long flight after a nearly as long layover, and I feel like thinking back very little of this made any particular impression on me. I can never sleep on planes (I hate the nearly-asleep-but-not-quite state too much and it reminds me of the long bus rides I had in high school) and I very nearly managed it on this flight, plus two other movies I started I ended up turning off after 15 minutes or so each (it was whichever new Fast and the Furious movie has the giant flaming ball at the beginning, and Dial of Destiny) since I was remaining too tired to be engaged. So it’s safe to say I wasn’t a fully receptive audience member at this point. And anyway my main reaction was I don’t really care about Mario on a personal level the way a lot of folks seem to, so this mainly just seemed fine but in a way that I was very disengaged from. Not dissimilar to how I felt about Minions, really, which I guess makes perfect sense.
