This is another movie I watched dubbed into Japanese on the plane to Japan, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. My friends joined in and watched it at the same time in English which was fun – and gave me some English subtitles to glance at now and then… I’d heard good things about this, mainly that it was surprisingly fun. And yeah, it’s pretty fun! It seems like it does especially capture well the feeling of adventuring with a party. I don’t feel super duper strongly about it, and it did feel pretty familiarly in the ballpark of quippy superhero adventure movies (something about some of the magic, like the portal thing, reminds me of how magic in those movies tends to get reduced to concepts that are easy to explain and call back to in a screenplay, like the ‘sling rings’ in Dr. Strange, which I don’t love, but this is a half-baked tangent comment), but I can’t particularly knock it. I recall it wasn’t the easiest to follow listening comprehension-wise because of all the fantasy concepts and repartee, so it wasn’t exactly the best setting for it.
