Let’s talk DAO tooling in Cosmos...

Problem Statement 🧐

What’s the problem?

DAOs and DAO tooling groups like DAO DAO would like to accept members into their Discords that have specific governance tokens, but there is no solution for the Cosmos ecosystem at this time.

• Token-gated bots are helpful for DAOs because they allow Discords to verify DAO members by membership NFTs or tokens
• Token gates can help verify trusted members of the community via checking wallets.
• Discord admins can create levels of membership depending on how specific tokens or number of tokens, giving them more flexibility in their communities.
• Collabland is the closest to what’s out there for token-gating, but it does not support the Cosmos ecosystem or follow along with the theme of the Cosmos ecosystem.

Project Proposal 📑

We’re building a bot called Starrybot that provides a Cosmos-themed token gating and wallet checking system for DAOs. Admins can choose the type of token and the role to assign a member that has that token. We’re also writing in support for Cosmos NFTs, so that holders or supporters of projects can get into specific spaces with their NFT ownership. We believe this will be useful first for DAO DAO as they test their DAO tooling and governance token minting, as well as regenerative DAOs that wish to organize through Discord channels.

In addition to providing basic functionality, Starrybot has several cute features, such as including Carl Sagan ipsum when signing a wallet, and allowing for an in-channel Admin setup with Star-themed emojis. We look forward to having this be a fun and easy to use tool that takes the complexity away from the token-gating process so that DAO communities can organize themselves more smoothly and easily!
