This one has beans, not beef! ;)

Red kidney beans are an amazing source of plant based protein if you are looking at meat replacements in your burgers, wraps or sandwiches. They're full of healthy nutrients and certainly filling enough for you to not miss the meat! Pro tip: They easily absorb flavour of the seasoning they're cooked in. So you can make this as spicy as you wish, or simply boil them in salt & pepper and pair them with other sauces.

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Soak the kidney beans a night before and drain that water.

  2. Pressure cook the red beans, carrot & corn in salt & pepper water until soft/mushy

  3. Mash the boiled beans/carrots. (You can use a blender if you want! I wanted it to be a little chunky, so I just mashed it)

  4. Grind onion, chillies, coriander, mint, garlic in a grinder to make a paste. (You can add basil too!)

  5. Add a little oil on a shallow pan and let this paste cook for a couple of mins. Add the mushrooms at this point.

  6. Add the mashed beans/carrots to the paste and mix thoroughly! This step is what gives your patty the flavour.

  7. Let the pan be open and cook until it thickens enough for you to make round patties out of it.

  8. Tip: You can dip a round patty of this mixture in some chick pea flour & bread crumbs and fry it, if you like deep fried patty burgers.
