[00:02:08] Sherry: So welcome I Shyan.

[00:02:23] I Shyan: Thank you. Thank you, Sherry. Thank you Nick for the invitation. It's exciting to be here. It's my first time doing a podcast.

[00:02:30] Nick: Well, hopefully not the last.

[00:02:32] I Shyan: Oh. Well, I'm certainly am nervous at the moment.

[00:02:36] Sherry: Yeah. So could you please briefly introduce yourself to our audience?

[00:02:41] I Shyan: Hello everyone. My name is I Shyan. I am born and bred in Hong Kong, and now residing in Singapore. Sherry has mentioned earlier, we are college friends in the States, currently pursuing MBA at the University of Manchester, and I have, um, about maybe 17 years working as music administrator. So I'm currently working as the head of the programming and production team at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in the National University of Singapore.

[00:03:11] Nick: I've also heard that you are a music teacher on top of doing all of these things. So you're working all of these different roles. Is there anything particularly that excites you or stands out in all the different jobs that you have?

[00:03:25] I Shyan: Well, I would say all aspects excite me because the multiple hats just, you meet different people. As a teacher, you meet students, you meet parents. As a music administrator, you meet artists, uh, you meet donors, sponsors, and then, as a musician, you meet other fellow musicians and you meet different other artists. So for example, if, if you're playing a multimedia project where you don't just meet musicians, but you also meet with visual artists or digital artists or designers. So yeah, I think all roles have sort of given me a, a multifaceted view or types of people that I meet.

[00:04:08] Nick: It also sounds like collaboration is a big piece of everything you do.

[00:04:13] I Shyan: Oh, I love collaborating with people. I love playing in orchestras, because I feel that the joy of putting music together as a team, it's priceless.

[00:04:23] As a music administrator, a successful event cannot be done without collaboration with your team, with artists, making sure everything runs smoothly. So I think collaboration, it's something that's definitely there for me.

[00:04:38] Nick: What did you study in college?
