Safety and Side Effects: tDCS and Binaural Beats

At Sychedelic, your comfort and wellbeing come first. Our technology is designed to enhance relaxation, mood, and self-awareness. Like any advanced tool, there are certain situations where transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) or binaural beats may not be suitable. Please take a moment to review the following information so you can enjoy the best and safest experience.

Who Should Avoid Using tDCS

The use of tDCS is not recommended for individuals who are currently pregnant or lactating; anyone diagnosed with neurological problems such as epilepsy, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s disease, brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, or other significant neurological disorders; those who have suffered a serious head injury in the past few months (including concussion, hospitalization, or loss of consciousness); individuals with a history of seizures; people with metal implants or devices in or around the head (such as hearing aids, cochlear implants, or surgical clips); anyone with a history of brain or spinal surgery; individuals diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment; and those with psychiatric or neurodevelopmental conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Schizophrenia, Psychotic Disorders, Bipolar I or II Disorder, Personality Disorders, Dissociative or Somatoform Disorders, Eating Disorders, or Narcolepsy.

Who Should Avoid Using Binaural Beats

Binaural beats should not be used by individuals with a history of seizures or epilepsy, those diagnosed with auditory conditions such as tinnitus or severe hearing loss, or anyone experiencing severe dizziness or vertigo.

Possible Side Effects of tDCS

Most users of tDCS experience little to no side effects, and when they do occur they are typically mild and temporary. These may include itching or tingling sensations, temporary skin redness, fatigue, a mild burning sensation, numbness, or mild nausea. Some individuals may experience moderate effects such as headaches or mood changes (for example, hypomania). Very rarely, unforeseen effects can occur. If you feel any discomfort, simply pause use and, if needed, consult a healthcare professional.

About the Sychedelic App

The Sychedelic App is designed for wellness, entertainment, and self-tracking purposes only. It helps you record how you feel, choose how you would like to feel, and enjoy music experiences tailored to your state of mind. When paired with the Sychedelic Headphones, the App acts as the controller, sending the selected settings to the Headphones, which are the devices that deliver tDCS and binaural beat features. The App can also be used independently for music and mood tracking, without the Headphones.

If you ever feel uncomfortable while using the Headphones with the App, please stop your session immediately and consult a qualified healthcare professional.
