<aside> 💡 Welcome to ORIGIN Bootcamp! Created in light of the shrinking internship market during the COVID-19 pandemic, ORIGIN was a free virtual summer entrepreneurship program guiding students from idea creation to product demonstration. We hosted 250 students from 50+ different universities in our Summer 2020 program.

2020 Curriculum

Most accelerators, even at the student level, expect applicants to already have an MVP so we wanted to provide the true first steps of going from 0 to 1. Through our eight week summer program, students learned about critical aspects of the startup building process using exclusive resources which included webinars by industry experts, personalized coaching from Online Career Fair, and office hours with the ORIGIN Team. Interested in building something but have no idea where to start? See a sample of our 2020 curriculum below.

Week 1: Ideation

Ideas form in many different ways. Brainstorming and creative collaboration are great parts of the ideation process, but it is also important to have a deep understanding of the problem being tackled before building a solution.

Week 2: Customer Discovery

Having a comprehensive and foundational understanding of the problem requires knowing the pain points of the customer and other stakeholders. To determine the best approach for building a business, the customer should be well-defined.

Week 3: Business Model

Businesses often start with a targeted approach towards just one customer segment that feels the problem more acutely than anyone else. Several key aspects of the business should be explored using an initial customer segment.

Week 4: Software Architecture

In addition to drafting the initial outline for the business, the software architecture should also be planned out. Understanding how different elements interact to build the software is critical in aligning with business requirements.

Week 5: Marketing & Prototyping

Businesses need a targeted plan to raise awareness and attract customers. In addition to knowing the marketing landscape, there should also be an understanding of the appropriate frameworks for software implementation.

Week 6: Financials & Prototyping

Creating a detailed financial model helps highlight the key drivers of revenue and cost. Businesses require a strong method of monetization to be sustainable. The prototype should be continuously developed as well.
