One of my pet peeves is bringing back Intentionally obsoleted hardware and the original iPad is no exception being stuck on iOS5.1.1

The original iPad came out in 2010 and I feel I’m guilty of drinking lots of iPhone koolaid and buying it like a sheep. I have no regret and if I did it again, I probably would have waited (and losing my gifted one was probably a sign to just let it go!) (but Dance Like Nobody's Watching may have never been inspired!)

ok I need to chime in here as someone who bought the 1st ipad - I have slight regrets - it was no much more than a big slate iPhone so it just felt like incremental value - this is what you want to avoid. With the M1, we are talking transformation - so even if u have a 1st gen, it is nothing close to the previous gen. the device is valuable no matter what even if the next M1X or M2 has double the performance. you still own a machine that does laps around Intel. I couldnt say these kinds of things about iPad until 10 years later when I grabbed an iPadPro w Trackpad support on web apps like Google Docs and as transformative as this was, the order of scale of the M1 is another orbit!

Attempt to give new life

Happy to discover greyd00r [meh - it’s def buggy and laggy (despite optimizations to disable services...) - i would rather have perhaps a jailbroken version of iOS5.1.1 and tweak things myself (restore 5.1.1, restore backup, use redsn0w, untether w Rocky Racoon)] { looks like I’ll be reseting my iPad - all my iWork docs didn’t make it over... }

I think it’s time to let it go... (too bad I didn’t use redsn0w in the first place...)

I’m sure I emailed a PDF to Naomi for her soulful soup...
