As the organizer of this Collection, I recognize the value of oral history as a fundamental way to capture gaps and overlap layers in the written records, preserving the firsthand recollections of the individuals in their own voice, and enriching the understanding about one's life. So far, I have recorded over 10 oral histories about Cesar Papa. The tabs below will soon provide further information, video excerpts, and transcripts for various parts of the Oral History Initiative. Researchers will be able to consult transcripts and/or selected extended people's filmed interviews.

If you had the chance to know Cesar Papa and are willing to share your stories, the Oral History Initiative is permanently receiving collaborations. You can write and show your interest to Laura Papa • [email protected]. All interviews are now online or by phone, due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Artist Oral History Initiative

Since 2016, Laura collects audios from friends, family and people related to Cesar Papa's life. For this initiative, she has had interview appointments with her own family, but also traveled across Brazil and the United States to meet friends and locals in order to elucidate other aspects from Papa's life.

<aside> 👉 One way to find material in the Cesar Papa Archives related to a particular artwork or person related to Papa's life is a keyword search across the collection. However, keep in mind that when it comes to people, not all faces or people are yet identified – most of them were already described in the back of the pictures or were pointed by living ones who knew them. If you have more information about the faces in pictures or videos, you can write to: [email protected].
