1. Summary

You can measure the results of any OptiMonk Experiment in Google Analytics (GA). This is relatively simple to do: all you have to do is to set up a Segment in GA for each Experiment group and then compare the behavior of these visitors.

2. Using Segments in GA

We use the Google Analytics feature called “segments” to measure basically anything. Segments, as the name implies, allow you to define a sub-group of visitors, and check/compare their behavior with other users.

In the screenshot below you can see that we created a GA Segment called “OptiMonk impressions”. This segment now contains all the visitors, who have seen at least one OptiMonk campaign.

You can use this feature to measure the results of your Experiments. Let’s assume you have an Experiment where you want to see how much extra money your new OptiMonk campaign brings you.

How can you set up two segments for these two visitor groups? Using Events!

3. OptiMonk Events in Google Analytics

In Google Analytics, there is a term called “Events”; you can even see a report of all the events that are sent to your GA account.

Basically, any tool can send its own events to GA, and OptiMonk is sending its own events. Whenever there is a popup impression or conversion happens, an OptiMonk event is triggered and sent to your GA account.

When you run Experiments, an Event is triggered and sent to GA whenever a visitor arrives to your site and their session is initiated.

If you click on the visitorInExperiment event, you will see the visitor groups that you have setup in OptiMonk.
