Upgrade 17: Jovian - Overview
This upgrade introduces several key improvements to enhance network performance and security.
Scope
- Configurable Minimum Basefee: Allows chain operators to specify a minimum base fee to shorten the length of prioritt fee auctions.
- Calldata footprint limit: adds an in-protocol limit to calldata to prevent DA spam and prevent priority fee auctions.
- Operator Fee Fix
- Cannon Go 1.24 support
- Upgrading the on-chain fault proof virtual machine implementation to support Go 1.24

We currently expect Upgrade 17 to ship to Mainnet in mid November.
- Release candidates for devnets: w/c 20th October
- Release for Sepolia superchain w/c 27th October
- Activation on Sepolia superchain + Release candidates for mainnet w/c 3rd November
- Activation on mainnet superchain w/c 10th November

- This upgrade is a hardfork. Chain operators should prepare for this upgrade by reviewing the technical documentation.
