On Spaceship, Inc. (“the Company”) strives to be a workplace where employees can thrive without sacrificing their essential family obligations. To that end, the Company provides eligible employees with paid parental leave (“PPL”). The purpose of PPL is to enable employees to care for and bond with a newborn or newly adopted or newly placed child.
All full or part-time, regular employees are eligible for benefits under this policy.
Bonding Leave. Eligible employees caring for a newborn, newly adopted or new foster placement child within one year of the birth, adoption or placement, will be provided up to a maximum of ten (10) weeks of paid leave. PPL will be paid on regularly scheduled pay dates.
An employee utilizing bonding leave may qualify for state benefits such as Paid Family Leave (“PFL”) benefits. The employee taking this leave must apply for PFL benefits directly through the California Employment Development Department (“EDD”). During the period the employee is receiving PFL benefits, the Company will supplement those benefits up to 100% of the employee’s regular weekly base compensation. If the employee’s PFL benefits end before their approved leaves ends under PPL, the Company will pay 100% of the employee’s regular weekly base compensation for the remaining PPL period. For more information on state benefits, please see below.
Medical Leave. Employees who are the birthing parent will be provided an additional six (6) weeks of paid leave for medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth.
An employee utilizing this additional leave may qualify for Short-Term Disability (“STD”) benefits or state benefits such as State Disability Insurance (“SDI”). The employee taking this leave must apply for STD benefits directly with the insurance carrier, MetLife, or SDI benefits directly through the EDD; the insurer or the EDD will make the determination of the eligibility of benefits. During the period the employee is receiving STD or SDI benefits, the Company will supplement those benefits up to 100% of the employee’s regular weekly base compensation. If the employee’s STD or SDI benefits end before their approved leave ends under PPL, the Company will pay 100% of the employee’s regular weekly base compensation for the remaining PPL period. For more information on state benefits, please see below.
Miscarriage/Still Birth. An employee who is the birthing parent and suffers from a miscarriage or stillbirth will be provided six (6) weeks of paid leave in lieu of Bonding Leave. The employee may qualify for STD or SDI benefits, in which case the Company will supplement those benefits up to 100% of the employee’s regular weekly base compensation. If the employee’s STD or SDI benefits end before their approved leave ends under PPL, the Company will pay 100% of the employee’s regular weekly base compensation for the remaining PPL period.
