Photo Engraving on Mongo

  1. Open Corel Draw

  2. Create new file

  3. From the 'File' menu Select 'Import'

  4. Select the photograph you wish to engrave

  5. From the 'Bitmap' menu select 'Resample'

    Set image width/height in whatever unit of measurement you like. Personally I find millimeters the easiest as I have the bed size in millimeters memorized)

    Set resolution to 254 dpi

  6. From the 'Effects' menu select 'Adjust' then 'Hue/Saturation/Lightness'

  7. Move the saturation slider all the way to the left (-100) and click 'Ok'

  8. HERE is where you CAN EXPERIMENT with adjustments to make the grayscale image look better

  9. From the 'Bitmap' menu select 'Mode' then 'Black and White (1-bit)'

    Most settings combinations CAN work (some will not if you figure more out update this page)

  10. From the 'File' menu select 'Export'

    In the 'Save as type' dropdown select "PNG - Portable Network Graphics' and click 'Ok'

    On the 'Export to PNG' Dialog on the right hand side under 'Settings' change 'Color Mode' to 'Black and White'

  11. In the Laser Cutter software import your PNG file as you would any other design, the black settings will be used to engrave your image

    Your engraving speed and power should be set based on your material and the scan gap should be 0.1
