Week 1 : Brief topic selection

Master thesis guideline : http://campus.lecolededesign.com/ressources/32c865.pdf

<aside> 💡 Background : 4 Years ago I found an activist group call Thaiconsent, where we promote the terms of consent sex in Thailand using social media platform.

Among the network of gender justice change-maker, Thaiconsent positioned itself as a media platform that introduce the knowledge about "consent" (which is a new word in Thai language, no translation!) and gender-based violence to Thai society, aims to create allies >> reduce the backfire when people act on justice for the gender-based violence in Thailand.

In Thaiconsent I have a chance to work with rape/sexual assualt victims from various background (ethnicity, age, class, gender). It is already connected to some organization/foundations such as UN Women, FRIDA and the other feminist fundings (see info in consentconnection.org and Resource Table ).

After a lot of communication, it is not enough. As a designer, I want to create a solid solution that is provable.

Personal experience of activism that inspires :

  1. Most rapist I met thinks it's not their fault that they don't understand the rejection form the victim. The interpretation plays a big role, and it could be the causes of rape. To create a common understanding on the consent interpretation might reduce a chance of rape in the future.

  2. I know that rape victim have a hard time to turn themself to a survivor, the existing support is not and never enough. Maybe I can design something to heal from the rape better. It is very near to how to make the heal accessible since victims are not sure if they need the heal or not (rape victim could reject the experience as a self-defense mechanism).

The standard I set for myself : the project shall continues after the end of study. It must be tested / practical to use by the partner organization : users, individual and institution that want tools to solve the problem.

Week 2 : Scope the topic using tools

Research Methodology

Using law of approximate

After creating a Big Keyword Library in the previous stage, I then use the tools from Research Methodology class to priority my interest of the context around both topics (How to help someone heal from rape & How to help people interpret the consent better). The summarize of both topics looks like...

<aside> 💡 After prioritized both areas of focus, I feel like How to help someone heal from the rape could be the big topic for my project while concept of consent interpretation could be a part of the studies and I could leave it to Thaiconsent's trainee to do.

Week 3 : Building Research Strategy

14 November 2019

After presenting the Week 2 's ideas, I got the feedback from Zak that I might see my whole universe before decide on a specific question or direction. Then, my topic is chunked up to "Something that solve problems about rape." which follows these intructions.

I also compare my mapping with the one I assigned the Thaiconsent's trainee, which is this one >> https://miro.com/app/board/o9J_kwXNIZI=/

I expect that on the 3rd of December I will be able to decide the big question and create project strategy.

End of note, 17 Nov 2019

Week 4 : General Update

23 November 2019

Done a big fun (A) the mapping process. and (B) the existing solution listing (C) Hi-lighted on interesting topics and now analyzing my role in this scenario.

Week 5 : Finding ways to communicate my work

25 November 2019

It takes an hour to explain all the map. Now I'm developing how to make it understandable in few minutes because the presentation must be done in 10-15 mins + question session.
