Metaclinic can allow interaction with external applications from all over the web via API. This guide shows how to work with the Metaclinic API in your own applications.

1. Create an external application within your Metaclinic account dashboard

• Navigate to your account configuration through the top level gear icon

  

• Once in your account configuration, click the "Manage Apps" link

  

• Click the "New App" Button

  

• When the "External App" dialog appears, enter your application details and click the "Save" button

  

• Upon clicking the "Save" button on the dialog, the dialog should disappear and a list of your configured applications should be displayed. To retrieve your app id and app secret, click the app details icon button, represented by the image of an eye in the right-most column

  

• When the "External App" dialog appears, the app id should be visible. Click the "SHOW APP SECRET" button to reveal your app secret. The app id and app secret will be used in the retrieval of your Metaclinic API bearer token, so you should store this data in a secure area that is consistently available to your application

  

2. API JWT bearer token retrieval and verification utilizing Postman

• (If you are familiar with Postman and have it installed already, you may skip this step)

  Postman is a collaboration platform for API development. Postman's features simplify each step of building an API and streamline collaboration so you can create better APIs—faster.

  To download/install Postman on Windows/macOS/Linux ****visit: https://www.postman.com/downloads

• Download the Postman Metaclinic API collection JSON file:

  MC-External-App-API-Dev.postman_collection.json

  MC-External-App-API-Dev.postman_environment.json

• Once the Metaclinic API collection JSON file is downloaded, open Postman and import the collection utilizing the "Import" button

  

• Once the "IMPORT" dialog appears, click the "Upload Files" button to locate the Metaclinic API collection JSON file on your local computer and upload it into Postman (the file name should be "MC-External-App-API-Dev.postman_collection.json")

  

• Once you have selected the Metaclinic API collection JSON file from your local computer, the "IMPORT" dialog should reappear with options to "Confirm your import". Click the "Import" button to continue

  

  

• After clicking the "Import" button, the "IMPORT" dialog should disappear and you may now begin importing the environment settings by click the gear icon in the top right corner.

  

  

• Click the "Choose Files" button to locate the Metaclinic API dev environment JSON file on your local computer and upload it into Postman (the file name should be "MC-External-App-API-Dev.postman_environment.json")

• Once the environment file is imported you should be able to see it in the list and select it to open and edit it's contents
