• On "Observation": Your observations are already rich with information. Consider using the following techniques to see more.
  • Look closely and examine information, scanning in a specific pattern, such as top to bottom, big to small, or focusing on the order in which the user interacts with the information. Do not be afraid you might gather irrelevant information. It's like casting a big net, you may catch irrelevant things, but you can slowly sift through it and eliminate what is not useful.
  • Take a break and come back to see if you can spot new information.
  • Organize observations by grouping similar objects together, especially repetitive items. For example, among the 5 shelves in the new refrigerator, a closer look should reveal that the middle three shelves have left and right partitions and the bottom two have drawers. Identify commonalities and the differences in the commonalities.
  • Compare items side by side to spot similarities and compare the similarities more easily. For instance, upon examining the layered partitions of the old refrigerator, in comparison to the layered partitions of the new refrigerator, it is evident that the partitions of the old refrigerator are separated by grids and if there is liquid it will flow down. The partition shelves in the new refrigerator are solid, so small objects are less likely to fall down to the bottom level.

  • Observations should be objective. Avoid using subjective words such as "more convenient" or "more basic" as they are subjective judgments and not observations. These are descriptions during the "Think" process, but not during the "See" process.
