This advanced guide will aim to guide you on how to avoid being scammed and show you what the main types of scams there are.
1. Never Share your “secret phrase” with Anyone but Yourself!
- A secret phrase is commonly used to establish access to your crypto wallet (e.g. MetaMask). A web3 website will never ask for this so never enter your secret backup phrase (unless for example you are trying to regain access to your wallet following a new installation of a browser).

2. Check you are connected to the Official Website!
- It is very common for scammers to create lookalike websites which look almost identical to the official website. Always double check the website address for any obvious spelling mistakes. Scammers may also take advantage of google advertisements to appear on the first result when searching for Klima DAO.
- CORRECT - klimadao.finance

FAKE - klimmadao.finance

3. Official DAO members will NEVER message you first!
- A common scam is when someone pretends to be working for the DAO and messages you on discord. They will often try to tell you that you may have won a prize, that they need your “seed phrase” to help resolve your problem or use a fake username (e.g. Klima Support, Klima helpdesk).
- To prevent this from happening we highly recommend that you turn off direct messages (DM’s) in your discord settings by right clicking the Klima Logo on the left side, and unticking the direct messages from server members in the privacy settings:

4. We recommend maintaining your Anonymity on the Internet
- To avoid becoming a target in real life, always maintain your anonymity from strangers on the internet - reveal as little as possible about your identity and your crypto activities.
