I’ve been thinking about the join us website the past few days because of the upcoming recruitment season and how it goes about rendering content. As with most (if not all) of our React projects, we use client-side rendering (CSR) such that the initial page load is pure JavaScript, which then populates the page with HTML/CSS. Although CSR is valuable for websites with a lot of dynamism and interaction (e.g., ad portal, alumni directory), the join us website is static and only changes every few months (in some ways similar to the Miseducation website). I feel like these two websites could be a nice playground to start experimenting with new frameworks such as Gatsby or NextJS to render with static-site generators (SSGs). I don’t we particularly care about site performance given the audience we serve, but I think it’d still be nice for people on our team to learn about different types of rendering options in preparation for jobs in the industry; I think accessibility follows a similar rationale.
