Why You Might Want To Record Your Internal Audio

How To Record Your Internal Computer Audio

To record your internal audio, middleware such as the Soundflower kernel extension by Matt Engalls must be installed and configured on a computer running MacOS. Note that this is not the Soundflower app which is no longer maintained (deprecated).

This installation extends the Mac operating system's audio functionality.

Despite having been released in 2015 - the kernel extension still works and I can confirm the steps listed on GitHub have worked on Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.3 and 10.13.6, and according to G`+ithub, MacOS Mojave 10.4 works as well. Credit to Matt Engalls for the premise of this tutorial.

Installation

#2 Hold cntrl & double click on the file in Finder

One of two things will happen:

a. If it doesn't open, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy and select 'Open Anyway' then proceed to the second option listed below under b.

b. If it opens, hold cntrl and double click on the installer (Soundflower.pkg)

Run the installer, it will enter your Administration password (this will not work on public Macs)

#3 WHEN/IF THE INSTALLER FAILS (It probably will the first time, that's ok):

Hold cntrl + double click the installer again

If this doesn’t work, delete it and try again.

If it still doesn’t work, you can refer to the original instructions on Github, and if all else fails you can email me [email protected].
