7 Steps
1. Start With a Story
- We are hardwired to recognise, remember and appreciate information provided through storytelling
- When you get up to make a speech, you are selling your content, your idea and yourself
- Include stories from your own life experiences before referencing those of others
- Be vulnerable, vocalise failure before success
Story Crafting
- Have a hero
- Describe what your hero is up against
- Build in a specific transcending emotion
- Include a clear lesson or transformation
- Add twists and turns
- Make it believable
- Have a clear incident that makes the story take off
- Know where to end up from the outset
- Quickly build in a hook to grab attention and draw in
- Reference your opening lines in conclusion (bookend technique)

2. Add Humour
Joke Funnel
- Start as wide as we can to make story relatable and relevant
- Connect to own personal story
- Ensure audience see themselves within it
- General Topic > Your Story > Find the Funny > Joke Structure > Details
Joke Structure
- Setup
- Punchline
- Tagline (optional)
3. Write Funny
- Reference local area when possible
- Set the scene (describe as if to a blind person)
- Add attitude by using strong and funny words
- Clear takeaways
- Callbacks at the end
- Use current media references
